Decobie Durant played his college ball against FCS competition at South Carolina State. Despite that fact, no one should overlook the skilled and athletically gifted cornerback.
When his team matched up against Clemson last season, Durant played great and was all over the field. In one game against a top-tier talent like Justyn Ross, he stepped up.
Even though the Tigers ended up winning by a lopsided score, the standout cornerback shined.
Durant has very quick feet and fluid hips, allowing him to jump routes and stick to receivers on quick cuts. His play recognition in zone coverage is also eye-popping – he is a willing tackler and can come out of nowhere to make a play in the flats.
Another positive to his game is his playmaking ability. Durant has great ball skills and can intercept any passes within his range.
Durant does not possess the lighting fast speed that Donte Jackson has. But his instincts are not too far off from the LSU product before he entered the league as a second-round selection.
Durant is flying under the radar in the draft and is projected as a day 3 pick by most analysts. If Scott Fitterer and the Carolina Panthers decide that they want a high-ceiling, sleeper pick in the late rounds, he could be their guy.
