3 major observations from the Carolina Panthers picking Ikem Ekwonu
By Dean Jones
Brady Christensen might finally have a permanent position
Ikem Ekwonu’s arrival to the Carolina Panthers is likely to fill the left tackle spot. Especially considering the team was reluctant to take Rashawn Slater in 2021 given the fact they graded him as a guard.
This could have a ripple effect on Brady Christensen, who was taken in the third round last year and mismanaged as a rookie as the Panthers tried to figure out where he’d be best utilized.
Now that Ekwonu is on board, this should allow Christensen to focus on the left guard position, and build his craft under the experienced guidance of James Campen en route to winning the starting job in 2022.
This would leave Carolina with a starting offensive line consisting of:
- Ikem Ekwonu – LT
- Brady Christensen – LG
- Bradley Bozeman – C
- Austin Corbett – RG
- Taylor Moton – RT
Providing there are no major concerns through injury, this has the potential to be a top-10 offensive line if everything clicks into place right away.
This is likely to be a major relief for Christensen. Carolina always believed he would be a starter, they just weren’t sure where.
Now, he should be all too aware.
