Carolina Panthers could draft Isaiah Thomas

  • Defensive End/Outside Linebacker | Oklahoma

Finding some pass-rushing help is something the Carolina Panthers will likely consider on Day 3. Letting Haason Reddick test the free-agent market was always going to come with his departure, so replacing 11 sacks is going to be a difficult challenge despite the potential for Brian Burns to secure career numbers once again.

This does appear to be a deep draft for pass-rushers. So if general manager Scott Fitterer can identify the right individual, it’s going to help enormously.

Someone like Isaiah Thomas could fit the bill. The Oklahoma product has enjoyed two seasons of consistent production with 22.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks, with his versatility to play multiple positions across the front seven also something working in the prospect’s favor.

Thomas is a smooth mover that attains success with a combination of high work rate, speed, and football intelligence. While the lineman wouldn’t be classed as the most explosive by any stretch, he can generate momentum quickly providing he’s first off the block.

The prospect needs to bulk up a little in the pros and tackling is another concern. But if the Panthers are looking for a low-risk option with exciting physical traits, then Thomas represents a mid-round option worth a second look.
