Matt Rhule – Carolina Panthers HC

Even though most outside of the Carolina Panthers expect Matt Rhule to be on the hot seat heading into the 2022 season, that might not be the case after all.

Rhule received a supreme vote of confidence from team owner David Tepper during some rare media availability, proclaiming this to be a six-year plan and that his head coach has done a good job at laying down foundations for a successful future.

Now that the Panthers are moving forward with Matt Corral, it might be the clearest sign yet that barring a complete capitulation next season, Rhule could be around a lot longer than many envisaged following his second-straight five-win season where almost no progress was made.

Of course, selecting Corral doesn’t mean the Panthers won’t go with another signal-caller from a much deeper class in 2023. Especially if things continue trending on a downward curve for Rhule.

Everything seems to be in place after Carolina struck it lucky with Ikem Ekwonu at No. 6 overall. The only thing that would perhaps hold this team back from making genuine progress is if Corral doesn’t develop quickly enough and Rhule’s coaching decisions continue to bemuse in real-time game situations.

Only time will tell as to whether or not the former Baylor man can make the adjustments needed.
