4 elite traits Matt Corral brings to the Carolina Panthers
By Dean Jones
What elite traits does former Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral bring to the Carolina Panthers after he became their pick at No. 94 overall?
The Carolina Panthers are hoping that Matt Corral can become their quarterback of the future after moving into the third round to select the Ole Miss product at No. 94 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Many believed that the organization would reach for their prospect of choice at No. 6. But general manager Scott Fitterer once again played the board extremely well and struck with conviction when the time was right to get their guy.
Corral needs to refine his game somewhat before ever starting for the Panthers. However, the signal-caller has high athletic traits and looks like a fantastic scheme fit for Carolina’s new offense under Ben McAdoo.
Expectations are high for Corral. Here are four elite traits the prospect is bringing to the Panthers.
Elite Trait No. 1
Matt Corral brings elusiveness to the Carolina Panthers
Although Matt Corral was tasked with run-pass option plays more often than not at Ole Miss, the quarterback displayed enough elusiveness in and out of the pocket to suggest he can bring this forward into the NFL.
Footwork does need some slight adjustment, especially when pressure undoubtedly arrives quickly at the next level. However, Corral is always composed in the pocket and can create additional space for himself before distributing the football.
Every little helps in the NFL. And elusiveness is something the Carolina Panthers haven’t had consistently since Cam Newton was at the peak of his powers.
