Matt Corral brings an NFL-ready release to the Carolina Panthers

The one thing above all else when examining Matt Corral’s intangibles on the field is how quickly the football comes out of his hands. While some areas of the player’s game need work, his release is already NFL-ready and should be a perfect fit for new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s scheme when the time comes.

Corral unleashes throws with conviction and in double-quick time. Something that will be an asset in the NFL providing he can increase the velocity on his sideline distribution, in particular.

It’s unlikely that Corral is ever going to be a gunslinger. However, the Carolina Panthers won’t need him to be in McAdoo’s system, which focuses on downhill running, play-action, and supreme accuracy over short-to-intermediate options.

These are all things Corral does well. And it is thanks in no small part to a release that is efficient and causes minimal fuss in terms of ball security.

Much more will be needed, obviously.

But throwing motion is something that McAdoo values highly in his quarterback assessments and it was one area where the coordinator openly criticized Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield during their respective pre-draft assessments.
