Matt Corral has triumphed over adversity

There is a lot to be said for someone that overcomes demons and wins. Matt Corral is one such individual and although it’s obviously a constant battle, it’s a mindset that inspires and could be of significant use to the Carolina Panthers moving forward.

Much has been made of Corral’s problems with alcohol in college at Ole Miss. The signal-caller has also spoken openly about suffering from depression, which is obviously an ongoing struggle but one that the prospect has admittedly adjusted to.

"“I’m not going to say that life’s easy every single day. It has its trials and tribulations. But having your vices, understanding yourself, (knowing) where you’re at mentally and how to prevent certain emotions and just being able to control them (has helped). Keep it under control, and keeping the main thing the main thing is keeping God first and understanding that it’s not about you.”"

You might be wondering what this has to do with football.

Everything.

When you have a quarterback that has been to the brink and comes out on the other side, it’s easy for players to gravitate toward him. Corral is also an exceptional leader when in the facility, which came in for significant praise during his time with the Rebels and should translate well to the pros.

Turning a negative into a positive is the hardest thing to do in life. Corral has done this in no uncertain terms, which is another thing that the player definitely has going for him.
