Carolina Panthers could sign Jadeveon Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney has not had the professional career people expected when he was selected by the Houston Texans at No. 1 overall in 2014. However, he still has played at a high level for the majority of his time in the league.

Clowney had a solid campaign season with the Cleveland Browns in 2021, racking up nine sacks and 11 tackles for loss. So he might have a lot left in the tank.

The Rock Hill, South Carolina native would probably welcome a return home providing the Carolina Panthers showed interest. And with the departure of Haason Reddick to the Philadelphia Eagles, the defensive edge rusher position needs someone who can start.

Clowney is that player in free agency available to be signed.

A one-year deal with performance bonuses would likely be enough to attract Clowney to sign with the Panthers. This is something Carolina could also afford with the league’s most salary-cap space.

Clowney would be a quality player against the run and rushing the passer. This could also provide Brian Burns with less attention heading into a crucial fourth year for the Pro Bowler.
