4 free agents the Carolina Panthers must consider post-draft in 2022
Carolina Panthers could sign Landon Collins
It is surprising that Landon Collins is still available after some good seasons with the Washington Commanders. One of the reasons could be concerns with his injuries as the safety has only competed in 20 games since the start of the 2020 season.
Despite this, he is a very talented safety.
Collins also has the versatility to play in either the free or strong safety positions. With the scheme that Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow runs, versatility is a huge positive to any player on the defensive depth chart.
The former Alabama standout may not be at an All-Pro level like he was with the New York Giants, but he can still play at a high level. Collins is probably looking for another opportunity rather than a big payday, which would also help Carolina if they identified him as a potential target.
Signing Collins to play with newly signed Xavier Woods and young star Jeremy Chinn makes all the sense in the world to do. And doing it with a one-year contract to limit the risk creates tremendous value in a potential move to get three-time Pro Bowler on board.
Adding another productive starter also opens things up for Chinn, who can be utilized all over the field thanks to an exceptional athletic skill set.
