Marquan McCall – Carolina Panthers DT
The Carolina Panthers resisted the temptation to strengthen their defensive line interior options during the 2022 NFL Draft. Those in power decided to prioritize other areas with limited resources at their disposal, but they did manage to secure the services of Marquan McCall in undrafted free agency once the selection process concluded.
McCall is a mammoth lineman who boasts sufficient quickness for a man his size. He is a four-year starter in the SEC at Kentucky and even though there are some clear flaws to his game, earning a roster spot is well within the prospect’s capabilities.
One standout area of McCall’s game is run blocking. He clogs up space extremely well and is surprisingly fast to the point of attack to further enhance his professional chances.
While there is evidence that McCall’s pass-rushing won’t be a factor in any way, Carolina struggled to stop the run consistently and the lineman represents a nice two-down option providing he does enough to stake a big claim in training camp.
The Panthers will be looking for more from Daviyon Nixon and Phil Hoskins in Year 2. They also signed Matt Ioannidis in free agency after DaQuan Jones left for the Buffalo Bills – so the task awaiting McCall is a steep one.
