Josh Babicz – Carolina Panthers TE

The Carolina Panthers obviously feel comfortable with the tight end tandem of Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble heading into the 2022 season. There should be less emphasis on the blocking aspect play of both thanks to some significant reinforcements across the protection, with new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo renowned for using the position heavily as part of his gameplan to further encourage both players.

With that being said, there is a chance things don’t work out. That’s why someone like Josh Babicz could emerge as a nice development prospect that might become something more over time.

Babicz comes from North Dakota State and is a well-built individual that looks to have the physical intangibles normally associated with NFL tight ends. He excels at blocking and has absolutely no trouble chipping defensive ends or picking up blitzes effectively based on his college film.

There is also a lot to like about Babicz’s pass-catching ability. The player uses his size to good effect over intermediate routes and also has enough physicality to make a significant difference in red-zone situations.

This would obviously be an ongoing process regarding Babicz, who isn’t blessed with the best explosiveness. However, there is no real No. 3 on the roster outside of Colin Thompson, so finding his feet early on could secure a roster spot when the time comes.
