Andre Roberts brings elite production to the Carolina Panthers
One thing that the Carolina Panthers have missed in recent years is consistent production from their kick returners. Something Andre Roberts should improve based on his previous performances since entering the league.
Roberts is a three-time Pro Bowler that also has one All-Pro selection to his name. Although he is in the tail-end of his career at 34 years old, there is nothing to suggest he cannot make a significant difference in the short term during a critical Year 3 for head coach Matt Rhule.
The former third-round pick out of The Citadel might not have reached the heights expected as a wide receiver. But the same cannot be said about his ability to alter the course of the game on special teams.
Roberts has enough burst to break off big yardage at will and once he finds some open space, there is little any opposing team can do to stop him. This is matched by reliable hands in fair catch situations and elusiveness to further enhance his overall credentials.
This fills a major hole for the Panthers. One that the team needed if they were not entirely convinced by the likes of Shi Smith or seventh-round selection Kalon Barnes.
