Andre Roberts brings versatility to the Carolina Panthers

Even though Andre Roberts has focused on the return game and not much else over the last few years, the player does have the versatility to become a factor on offense should the Carolina Panthers choose.

New offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo will likely have a big say in this. His scheme relies heavily on creating yards after the catch on short-to-intermediate routes – something that could make Roberts a useful asset to call upon despite the current options in Carolina’s wide receiver room.

Roberts also has some experience when it comes to carrying the football out of the backfield. His primary duties will obviously be returning kicks – where he excels – but versatile options are something the Panthers value highly in their recruits and could add another dimension on offense depending on how other players on the roster establish themselves.

This is the latest in a series of good signings made by the Panthers this offseason. Their offensive line should be much improved, they now have a potential franchise quarterback to develop, and the defense should also continue to make strides despite losing some prominent veterans in free agency.

Chris Tabor is sure to maximize whatever Roberts has left at this stage of his career. Expectations are high for the veteran, but he has reached the pinnacle before and might be able to do so again.
