Cam Newton could join the Chicago Bears

This is a big season for Justin Fields. The former Ohio State standout flashes moments of brilliance during his first season with the Chicago Bears, but there is increasing pressure on the signal-caller to make additional strides as a sophomore and prove beyond all doubt that the organization made the right call by bringing him on board.

The Bears released Nick Foles this week, leaving them with just Trevor Siemian as their backup option. Not a player that would install the greatest confidence if Fields was forced to miss time at any stage.

Cam Newton would be a much better backup option in Chicago. This would also provide Fields with a prominent role model who has been to the very top of the NFL mountain.

Not only this but there would also be an option for the Bears to utilize Newton in short-yardage situations and in the red zone. For all the player’s inconsistency throwing behind a porous offensive line during his brief second stint with the Carolina Panthers, he remains a big-time weapon carrying the football that teams can take advantage of.

Whether this is something that would interest Newton is unclear. Chicago is unlikely to be a contender in 2022, which might put the player off at this stage of his illustrious career.
