Jadeveon Clowney would improve the Carolina Panthers’ run-stopping

Although there was a lot to like about the defensive improvements made by the Carolina Panthers overall last season, stopping the run was a real concern over the second half of the campaign.

This had a lot to do with an inept offense that couldn’t stay on the field for a consistent period of time. But losing both DaQuan Jones and Haason Reddick in free agency means others will now have to step up and fill the void.

Gap discipline and setting the edge became a constant source of frustration in key moments in 2021. Something Jadeveon Clowney would improve an untold amount if he ended up joining the Panthers.

Clowney is a physical tone-setter against the run with experience on the edge or interior, depending on the situation. His awareness and patience have improved significantly throughout the player’s career and putting him on a defensive front that also consists of Brian Burns and Derrick Brown would be highly productive.

The three-time Pro Bowler might be keen on signing a short-term agreement with a lot of guaranteed money attached. Carolina could afford such a financial commitment, and there is also a great deal of urgency for the Panthers to start trending in the right direction in Year 3 of Matt Rhule’s tenure.
