Carolina Panthers safeties

  • Jeremy Chinn, Xavier Woods, Myles Hartsfield (DB), Juston Burris, Kenny Robinson.

There has been a slight tweak to the Carolina Panthers’ options on the backend this offseason. Xavier Woods was brought in during free agency following his bounce-back campaign with the Minnesota Vikings, which should provide Jeremy Chinn with a productive partner he didn’t really have last time around.

Chinn transitioned well to the safety spot overall. There were some lapses in coverage, but the former Southern Illinois standout went over 100 tackles once again, and returning coach Steve Wilks highlighted his belief that he can turn the 2020 second-round selection into an All-Pro sooner rather than later.

Woods and Chinn will be the starting duo barring injury. Carolina’s depth also looks sufficient after the team brought back Juston Burris on a team-friendly deal despite the player dealing with some troubling injury problems that hindered his influence at key moments over the last two seasons.

There remains hope that Kenny Robinson and Myles Hartsfield can make bigger contributions to the defensive back rotation and continue their sterling work on special teams. However, the promise of further arrivals in this area of the field cannot be ruled out before competitive action begins.
