Considering the amount of talent within the wide receiver room, it was an immensely disappointing campaign overall. The Carolina Panthers haven’t tinkered much with their options throughout the offseason, so they will be banking on major improvements from their current options before blowing things up entirely.

This obviously has a lot to do with a suspect offensive line and dismal quarterback production. But there were also many wideouts that failed to meet realistic objectives and that simply has to change moving forward.

The one constant was D.J. Moore, who went over 1,000 receiving yards once again and deservedly got a lucrative extension this offseason. He remains the focal point, but much more is required from Robby Anderson and Terrace Marhsall Jr., who failed to leave any sort of mark in 2021.

There could be a role for Rashard Higgins to play following his arrival from the Cleveland Browns in free agency. Brandon Zylstra’s reliability might result in another roster spot, and a chance is taken once again on former sixth-round selection Shi Smith despite his offseason arrest.

At least on the face of things, this looks like a group capable of doing some real damage. Whether this can be attained or not is another matter entirely.
