There was no way that the Carolina Panthers could go on with such problems across their offensive line. This was once again one of the league’s worst despite the ultra-consistent presence of right tackle Taylor Moton, which came as no surprise with poor free-agent signings and a real lack of focus on this area of the field during the 2021 NFL Draft.

Thankfully, that has not been the case this time around.

The Panthers have made strengthening their protection for whoever is under center a top priority, acquiring Bradley Bozeman and Austin Corbett in free agency in addition to using the No. 6 overall selection on stud prospect Ikem Ekwonu.

This will obviously be music to the fans’ ears. However, for the likes of Cam Erving, it leaves him fighting for depth chart position and the same number of reps he accumulated during his first season with the franchise when healthy.

Signing Erving was done swiftly by the Panthers last spring, who seemed confident that they could be the ones to finally fulfill the former first-round selection’s potential. It didn’t take long for everyone to the scenario was never going to be realized.

Erving’s inconsistent play, inept pass protection, and lack of accountability made him public enemy No. 1 with some. Unless this attitude changes in the coming weeks, then the veteran is likely to find himself on the fringes.
