Can the Carolina Panthers TE room improve?
This offseason has been a confidence-boosting one for Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble. The tight-end duo look set to assume starting responsibilities in 2022 after the organization stuck with what they had rather than addressing the position in free agency or the draft, with offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo undoubtedly having a huge say in the matter.
McAdoo’s system relies heavily on pass-catching tight ends. So it would be a huge surprise if Thomas and Tremble weren’t more involved than they were when Joe Brady was calling the shots.
Both have the athletic attributes to take advantage of more responsibilities. But if neither player can step up, then the Panthers don’t have enough depth behind the duo at the present moment.
Obviously, the Panthers can strengthen the roster in free agency should they wish. Even though this would be a shock when one considers how things have transpired throughout the preparation period so far.
Thomas and Tremble will get every chance to prove themselves and their blocking is already right where it needs to be. However, the position demands much more in the modern-day NFL and it remains to be seen whether Carolina was right to trust the tandem so much.
