Way-too-early Carolina Panthers 3-round 2023 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Jacob Cowing
- Wide Receiver | UTEP
The Carolina Panthers are without a third-round pick after moving up to secure the services of Matt Corral. A gamble that the organization is hoping finally solves their constant complications in this important area of the field.
Obviously, that’s no guarantee. Although offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo’s evaluation of the player should be respected given his track record until proven otherwise.
One area where the Panthers might want to bring in fresh blood next year is at wide receiver. D.J. Moore’s production remains of the highest caliber and he was paid handsomely this offseason, but it’s a huge upcoming campaign for the likes of Robby Anderson, Terrace Marshall Jr., Rashard Higgins, and Shi Smith after indifferent seasons in 2021.
Hopefully, they can build up confidence again and make more of an impression. Even though it remains to be seen just who will be starting under center.
In this scenario, the Panthers get themselves a tremendous young prospect who has everything one looks for in an outstanding wideout in the pros. Jacob Cowing was an absolute revelation at UTEP in 2021, securing 69 receptions for 1,354 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, coming up with some incredible highlights that won’t have gone unnoticed by NFL personnel.
Cowing is a threat all over the field and has the speed to take the top off consistently. If the current crop of Carolina receivers cannot make the necessary adjustments in 2022, then there are far worst avenues the team could go down.
