3 things Matt Corral must improve to win Panthers starting job in 2022

Matt Corral must improve decision-making
There is much to like about Matt Corral’s accuracy over short-to-intermediate routes. This should be a nice fit in Ben McAdoo’s approach and the quarterback has also shown a keen willingness to get the football downfield when opportunities arise.
Even though velocity on outside throws needs a slight upgrade, Corral has some traits that cannot be taught. However, being more efficient when it comes to decision-making will only help his cause for a starting position over Sam Darnold sooner rather than later.
Corral has a gunslinger mentality about his play at times. This is reflected in the film and some of the things he got away with at the college level will be punished severely in the pros.
Again, taking away the risks Corral makes on the field entirely would be a mistake. It’s more a case of refinement and making sure the signal-caller is efficient and reacts well under pressure.
Decision-making is an area where Sam Darnold has struggled considerably throughout his four years In the NFL. Providing Corral adjusts and gets consistent calls right under pressure in camp and the preseason, then becoming the team’s No. 1 is not entirely out of the question.
The Carolina Panthers are clearly going to give Corral a fair chance. What comes next is down to the player.
