If one works on the premise that the Tampa Bay Buccanneers will win the NFC South, then it’s vital that the Carolina Panthers build some momentum against their two other foes. It might be a period of transition for the Atlanta Falcons after trading quarterback Matt Ryan, leaving the New Orleans Saints as a legitimate threat to their hopes of respectability in 2022.
It’s been a dramatic offseason for the Saints, who have a new head coach after Sean Payton walked away. The front office also worked miracles to go from $85 million over the cap to put themselves in a position to succeed, signing some top players along the way.
Couple this with a solid draft class and it’s not hard to see why New Orleans could be a lively outsider next season. Although much will be dependent on Jameis Winston and how the signal-caller comes back from a serious knee injury.
If the Panthers can get one win or even perhaps sweep the Saints next season, their chances of a surprise playoff push will increase enormously. Whether they can achieve this or not is the big question.
