Matt Corral fails to inspire confidence

There are some useful traits that Matt Corral is bringing to the Carolina Panthers. Even if it will take a little time before the player is ready to assume command under center.

Corral’s decision-making has to improve in the pros. He also needs to take fewer risks and learn to maximize his productivity in the run game without putting himself in harm’s way.

However, the signal-caller will have the benefit of Sean Ryan and Ben McAdoo to call upon. Two coaches that are widely respected and have worked with some of the league’s best during their respective careers.

With that being said, the possibility of Corral failing to inspire confidence in his long-term fortunes is there. Something that would be a major disappointment and could lead the Panthers into a high-end quarterback selection from what is set to be an outstanding 2023 draft class.

Putting too much pressure on Corral immediately would be a mistake. If those in power are not convinced by Sam Darnold, then they should pull the trigger on a veteran trade rather than throwing the rookie in at the deep end ahead of time.

It would be wise for the Panthers to know what they have in Corral at some stage this offseason. But if the coaching staff is not 100 percent convinced, then the player might end up sitting for the entire campaign.
