Will Grier – Former Carolina Panthers QB

  • Drafted 100th overall in 2019 (West Virginia)
  • 2 games played
  • Released 2021

Remember when Will Grier was drafted as the man to take over the franchise from Cam Newton?

Well, it’s fair to say things have not gone to plan for the Charlotte native since being drafted by his hometown Carolina Panthers back in 2019.

Despite clearly not being ready for NFL action Grier was thrust into the spotlight with an abundance of injuries and poor play at the quarterback position. This saw Cam Newton injured and Kyle Allen benched, leaving the former West Virginia stud as the starter for the final two games of the season.

These contests were a disaster for Grier. In his first NFL start on the road to the Indianapolis Colts, he went 27 of 44 for 224 passing yards and three interceptions during a 38-6 road defeat.

Things didn’t get much better in Week 17 as he threw for just four yards and a pick-six before exiting with a foot injury.

Grier lost the battle for backup quarterback ahead of the 2021 season to P.J. Walker despite showing some flashes in the preseason. He was subsequently released, being claimed off waivers by the Dallas Cowboys the next day.

This is where Grier remains as the team’s third option behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. It’s going to be a long road back for the signal-caller, who now faces a real fight for his NFL future.
