Do the Carolina Panthers need something else at QB?

Finding an upgrade on Sam Darnold was a big need for the Carolina Panthers this offseason. It proved to be an unprofitable trade market after missing out on Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson, but the organization did get a stroke of luck when Matt Corral slid down the 2022 NFL Draft far enough for him to be scooped up at No. 94 overall.

Corral has made a good impression early on and certainly looks like he can become a productive starter in time. However, the Panthers need help right now and especially if Ben McAdoo remains unconvinced about Darnold’s ability to eradicate clear flaws from his game.

The Panthers have not ruled out another move in the trade market if they feel like it would benefit the franchise. Scott Fitterer told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that lines of communication also remain open with Cam Newton regarding another return.

If Matt Rhule wants to bet his job on Darnold, that’s fine. But the form suggests that it would not be a smart avenue to go down.

This all comes down to timing. And the Panthers have the salary-cap space to make something happen should they choose.

Just another intriguing element to keep a close eye on this summer.
