Carolina Panthers could sign Nick Foles
Drafting Matt Corral in the third round might not be the end of quarterback moves where the Carolina Panthers are concerned. General manager Scott Fitterer revealed that lines of communication remain open with Cam Newton about a potential return and the prospect of trading for someone like Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo hasn’t been ruled out, either.
The Panthers are going to give Sam Darnold a chance to prove himself yet again. Even though he might be a lost cause at this point after failing to meet even modest targets following his trade from the New York Jets.
Carolina also has the option of bringing in Nick Foles for additional competition should they wish. The former Super Bowl MVP was released by the Chicago Bears as they move forward with Justin Fields, which might be a short-term solution that allows Corral more time to refine his craft.
Foles has proven capable of slotting in at a moment’s notice and making things happen. This would also be a strong leadership presence for Corral given all that the veteran has achieved throughout his career.
Perhaps bringing Newton back for a similar role would be more beneficial. But Foles does also appear to be a good scheme fit for Ben McAdoo given how quickly the football comes out of his hands.
