Could the Carolina Panthers make another QB move?

Despite drafting Matt Corral and keeping Sam Darnold on the books, the Carolina Panthers have refused to rule out the possibility of making another veteran move if they feel it can benefit their chances in 2022. There is plenty at stake for head coach Matt Rhule next time around, so betting his long-term job prospects on the No. 3 overall selection in 2018 is a risk that’s unlikely to reap the necessary rewards.

As stated previously, the Panthers possess enough cap space to make something happen. Names like Jimmy Garoppolo and Baker Mayfield keep coming up, but Carolina doesn’t appear to be in any rush according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Perhaps someone like Nick Foles could be another option on the free-agent market following his release by the Chicago Bears. This would not cost them any draft picks for a veteran that has been to the very top.

General manager Scott Fitterer also told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the lines of communication remain open with Cam Newton, who made a shock return to the franchise last year but was far from pleased about the locker room he walked into.

Which way the Panthers go will have huge ramifications. There are a number of options who all probably represent an upgrade on Darnold, but that’s not exactly saying much and Carolina has to be absolutely convinced this is going to work.
