There could be more time in the lineup than was originally anticipated for Cory Littleton in 2022. The linebacker’s ability in coverage was expected to be used as a third-down presence by Phil Snow, but Damien Wilson’s recent arrest has brought an air of uncertainty to the second level for the third straight offseason since Luke Kuechly hung up his cleats.

Littleton could be allocated the starting job if the Carolina Panthers end up releasing Wilson. Although there remain some intriguing figures on the free-agent market that could come in and make a smooth transition.

It’s hard to project just how influential Littleton will be in 2022.

His production has been inconsistent with brilliant flashes over the last two seasons. But Littleton’s tackling prowess cannot be faulted and as stated previously, the former Washington standout does look the part in obvious passing situations.

Much will depend on Wilson’s status and just how quickly the Panthers can bring along fourth-round selection Brandon Smith. Littleton penned a one-year deal in free agency and will need to work exceptionally hard to get an extended stay.

As it stands right now, the prospect of Littleton being extended would be slim. But stranger things have happened and certainly if the player carves out a useful role for himself.
