Cam Newton – Former Carolina Panthers QB

It was not an easy situation for Cam Newton in 2021 after the iconic quarterback decided to make a bombshell return to the Carolina Panthers. The early signs were positive and few will ever forget the reception he received when announced as the team’s starter against Washington, but this could not prevent the organization from free-falling to yet another five-win campaign.

Newton knew the risks, obviously. He was also less than thrilled about the mentality within the locker room, which was a far cry from what the signal-caller experienced when the likes of Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis, Greg Olsen, and Ryan Kalil were prominent figures.

Yes, Newton is past the peak of his powers. But general manager Scott Fitterer has kept the lines of communication open regarding a potential return in 2022.

This is something that needs to happen quickly if it becomes more than just talks. Newton has not had a full offseason to learn the scheme and prepare since his release in 2020 and if the Auburn product wants to get his career back on track, then additional preparation time would make all the difference.

At the very worst, Newton could provide a power-running presence and an exceptional mentor to Matt Corral. But it would also need the former NFL MVP to be convinced after what transpired last time around.
