Andre Smith – Former Carolina Panthers LB

The Carolina Panthers got what they gave up for Andre Smith after deciding to trade the linebacker to the Buffalo Bills for a 2023 seventh-round selection. This came after the player failed to do enough to convince the new coaching staff he was worthy of an extended role, which was probably a mistake in hindsight considering the struggles at the second level since Luke Kuechly’s shock retirement.

Smith was in and out of the practice squad in Buffalo. But he did earn some reps over the last two years and was given a two-year deal by the organization prior to the 2021 campaign.

This was a step in the right direction for Smith. But the Bills are absolutely loaded from top to bottom as they look to finally get over the hump and secure the Super Bowl next time around.

The task awaiting Smith this offseason is a significant one. His previous experience within the set-up will help, but it will take much more to firmly establish himself on the depth chart.

Considering how things looked for Smith upon departing the Panthers, things could not have gone much better. A testament to the North Carolina product’s drive and determination in the face of adversity.

Earning a prominent spot on the rotation in Buffalo next season would be Smith’s biggest career accomplishment by a considerable margin.
