Dean Marlowe – Former Carolina Panthers S

It’s unlikely that Dean Marlowe will soon forget his first season with the Carolina Panthers in 2015. A year when the team went on a phenomenal run that brought an NFL MVP award for Cam Newton and an NFL championship before they fell at the final hurdle against the Denver Broncos.

Marlowe was a bit-part player during this span. Not entirely unexpected considering he joined the ranks as an undrafted free agent out of James Madison.

As it turned out, Marlowe would play only one more season with the Panthers. He was active just once in 2016 before moving on to the Buffalo Bills.

This is where Marlowe began to establish himself a little more. The safety was a solid rotational piece during his three-year stint with the organization and did more than enough to earn a bigger opportunity with the Detroit Lions in 2021 free agency.

Marlowe played all 16 games for the Lions – starting nine times and accumulated 67 tackles, two passes defended, and two quarterback hits. Sadly, this was not enough for the player to get an extended stay, but the Panthers might be seeing a lot more of the defensive back next time around as a result.

The Atlanta Falcons snapped up Marlowe this spring, where he’ll be fighting for a roster spot. Something that is achievable considering the lack of depth within Carolina’s fierce NFC South rivals.
