Which veteran free agents currently looking for work could step in and immediately start for the Carolina Panthers in 2022?

The Carolina Panthers still have some salary-cap space available should they wish to strengthen their ranks ahead of the 2022 season. Obviously, this might be all saved for a potential quarterback trade depending on how Sam Darnold and Matt Corral perform, but a couple of other positional groups could also use an upgrade if the opportunity arises.

This is something the Panthers will no doubt consider. Those in power have done an incredible job of finding the right fits without spending too much in the process, so hopes are modest regarding progression next time around despite Carolina’s tough-looking schedule.

As it stands right now, the Panthers have $24.59 million in free funds remaining with most of their draft class signed, according to Spotrac. Some will be set aside for potential in-season moves, but it’s unlikely that Carolina restructured so many contracts to leave them short of cash in 2023 if they didn’t have an ace or two up their sleeve.

It’s also worth remembering that there is a lot at stake for head coach Matt Rhule next time around. Any more underachievement will see speculation about his future rise further, although team owner David Tepper remains steadfast in his belief that this is the guy to lead the Panthers back to greatness.

Without further ado, here are four remaining free agents that could instantly secure starting roles for the Panthers in 2022.
