4 free agents that could instantly start for the Panthers in 2022

Carolina Panthers could target Jason Pierre-Paul
The Carolina Panthers could still use a prolific pass-rushing weapon after deciding to let Haason Reddick walk in free agency. Yetur Gross-Matos comes with breakout potential, but it is no guarantee he can put up anything like the numbers attained by the former Temple star during his one and only season with the franchise.
Another veteran sitting on the market that has done damage to the Panthers in recent years is Jason Pierre-Paul. The Florida native has terrorized defenses for over a decade now and although his influence dipped slightly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, there does appear to be a little more in the tank that could be of use.
Pierre-Paul wouldn’t necessarily be guaranteed a starting gig ahead of Gross-Matos. But his credentials are there for all to see and his experience playing as a defensive end or outside linebacker is something else working in the veteran’s favor.
The edge defender is just 8.5 sacks away from joining the prestigious 100-club. A feat not many manage to achieve and something that could mean Pierre-Paul is not willing to walk away from the game just yet.
Carolina gives him a solid spot to earn prominent reps that might not be available elsewhere. And it’s clear a little more might be needed in the wake of Reddick’s departure.
