Best starter at every Carolina Panthers position in franchise history
By Jason Huber
Thomas Davis/Sam Mills – Former Carolina Panthers LBs
How can you pick just one here?
You can’t.
Both Thomas Davis and Sam Mills were great at their positions while with the Carolina Panthers and to not give both of them the honor is ignoring two pivotal parts of the franchise’s history.
Starting with Mills, the phrase “Keep Pounding” wouldn’t exist without him. He remains the only Panther to have a statue built outside Bank of America Stadium.
Mills was recently inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and has one of the most famous moments in team history when he returned an interception for a touchdown that led to Carolina’s first win in franchise history in 1995.
When it comes to Davis, he first defied all odds by coming back from three ACL tears and became one of the team’s hearts and souls from 2005-18.
Despite missing plenty of time his first few seasons while recovering from his injuries, Davis finished his career as the Panthers’ all-time leading tackler with 789 and is second in tackles for loss.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Davis makes the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But he will certainly be in the team’s Hall of Honor at some point.
