Carolina Panthers MLBs

This is an ongoing problem.

One that has been prevalent across the Carolina Panthers since legendary linebacker Luke Kuechly was forced to retire due to health concerns following the 2019 campaign.

Finding someone to replicate Kuechly’s production and influence is almost impossible. That’s how good the five-time All-Pro was.

Carolina’s third different starter in as many seasons is set to be Damien Wilson. Although this is also in question following the free-agent signing’s recent arrest.

If the allegations surrounding Wilson become something more, then the Panthers will have a big decision to make. There is also little in the way of depth behind him despite the additions of Cory Littleton and rookie Brandon Smith this offseason.

These moves were probably done more in hope than expectation where Carolina is concerned this spring. But yet more inconsistency is only going to cause further complications at a position where the Panthers have been spoiled with exceptional performers over the years.

Wilson’s status aside, this position could become a weak link if everything doesn’t come together. Something that would make finding a long-term middle linebacker a top priority in 2023.
