Matt Corral – Carolina Panthers QB

  • Week 8 starter
  • Proves to be a long-term QB

There was a real sense of excitement within the Carolina Panthers when they got the chance to move up and select Matt Corral at No. 94 overall. The quarterback was the top prospect at the position on their draft board, with both Ben McAdoo and Sean Ryan speaking about the signal-caller in high regard during the Panthers Confidential documentary.

Corral certainly has the skills to become an NFL starter over time. His release is lightning fast, which is matched by a fierce competitive streak and accuracy that looks tailormade for McAdoo’s system.

Carolina has the option of bringing in another veteran via trade if they aren’t happy with Sam Darnold during the preparation period. But if they don’t, then it could present a scenario where the former Ole Miss star gets to assume responsibilities under center during his first year with the franchise.

Most fans and analysts have seen enough from Darnold to suggest he cannot be trusted. The Panthers still speak about him like a rookie, but this is a player entering his fifth season counting $18.85 million against the salary cap in 2022.

If Corral can start midway through the campaign and prove beyond all doubt he can be the guy, then there is just no telling how much this will benefit the Panthers moving forward.
