Carolina Panthers select Isaiah Foskey

  • Defensive End/Outside Linebacker | Notre Dame

Losing Haason Reddick in free agency was a calculated risk by the Carolina Panthers. However, finding a long-term option might be a real need for the organization in 2023 depending on how Yetur Gross-Matos and Marquis Haynes cope with extra responsibility next season.

The Panthers are expected to give Brian Burns a bumper extension sooner rather than later. But adding another physical presence on the edge wouldn’t hurt no matter how Gross-Matos and Haynes get on, in all honesty.

Someone like Isaiah Foskey is one to watch. The Notre Dame product is the latest in a long line of outstanding defenders to emanate from the Fighting Irish in recent years and could go much higher than this if he can build on his 10-sack campaign last time out.

Foskey is an explosive edge presence who anticipates things well. There are some issues with gap discipline and relying too much on power, but the Panthers have bet heavily on high athletic traits like this under the current regime and it would be a surprise if they diverted from this method when the time comes in 2023.

He might be a little raw right now, but there is no telling what Foskey’s ceiling might be if the right improvements are made to his game when competitive action resumes.
