Extremely early Carolina Panthers 7-round 2023 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Gervon Dexter
- Defensive Tackle | Florida
Honestly, I have no idea why Gervon Dexter fell this far down Pro Football Network’s simulator. However, if this scenario comes to fruition then it’s an absolute no-brainer for the Carolina Panthers.
Dexter has all the physical attributes needed to become a star. His production and overall influence have steadily increased during his first two years with the Florida Gators and if there is more to come in 2022, then it will not go unnoticed by NFL scouts across the country.
One thing that stands out when watching Dexter is his footwork, which is exemplary and allows him to generate meaningful pressure from the interior. This is matched by an outstanding short-area burst that allows the prospect to cover ground quickly in pursuit of opposing quarterbacks.
There is also a lot to like about Dexter’s heavy hands and agility on running downs. If the player can improve getting off blocks effectively and using leverage to his advantage, someone is going to have a tremendous individual on their hands.
The Carolina Panthers are expecting big things from Derrick Brown and Matt Ioannidis on the defensive line in 2022. But if Daviyon Nixon, Bravvion Roy, and Phil Hoskins don’t show the necessary improvements, others could be brought in as a result.
