Cam Newton still believes he can start

It’s something we’ve heard from Cam Newton many times before.

“There are not 32 quarterbacks better than me.”

The signal-caller reaffirmed this belief on The Pivot, claiming that he is still talented enough to start somewhere providing the opportunity comes along. Some believe that’s not the case, while others remain fiercely loyal to Newton and acknowledge that things have not been easy since the legendary figure was released in messy circumstances by the Carolina Panthers in 2020.

Newton wasn’t exactly beating away offers before the Panthers came calling before their Week 10 game at the Arizona Cardinals. Perhaps teams think that having such a big personality as a backup would pile too much pressure on whoever their No. 1 is under center.

It has been a good while since Newton performed consistently thanks to injuries and difficult situations. He remains a significant running threat out of the backfield, but questions about his arm grew last season after failing to remove Sam Darnold completely from the equation.

In truth, there probably aren’t 32 quarterbacks that can match what Newton brings to the table even now. But the simple fact is teams will always prefer a younger, cheaper option to a player whose best days are probably behind them.
