Which former Carolina Panthers quarterbacks struggled to produce the wins needed during their time with the franchise?

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Carolina Panthers regarding their quarterbacks throughout team history. This bears more significance over the last few years, with a series of questionable calls holding a talented roster back from genuine progression under head coach Matt Rhule.

For every Cam Newton and Jake Delhomme, there are countless others who arrived with promise but failed to get the job done. Quarterback wins aren’t necessarily a fair statistic, but it is an indication of how a signal-caller can lead by example and drive their team to success in the face of adversity.

No NFL team has hit home runs with every quarterback. But unless the Panthers figure this issue out quickly, then further complications are likely to emerge when the 2020 campaign begins.

With that being said, we took a look at five former Panthers quarterbacks that the franchise struggled to win with during their time in the league so far.

Vinny Testaverde – Former Carolina Panthers QB

Perhaps it’s easy to forget that Vinny Testaverde even played for the Carolina Panthers at all. The veteran quarterback came into the organization with a starting job promised during the 2007 season, which turned out the be the last of an eventful career.

Testaverde struggled to develop chemistry with his receivers and was finally benched for good after Week 8 at that Jacksonville Jaguars, a game Carolina lost 37-6 in embarrassing fashion.

The former Miami standout finished with a 3-4 record as a starter. And Testeverde’s time with the Panthers was enough for the signal-caller to hang up his cleats for good.
