What last-ditch trade offers could the Carolina Panthers make in pursuit of securing the services of quarterback Baker Mayfield before training camp?

The clock is ticking ahead of an important quarterback decision for the Carolina Panthers. In an ideal world, any new addition would come in before the team’s training camp in Spartanburg, but those in power might end up sticking with Sam Darnold and Matt Corral as their preferred options and resist the temptation for another roll of the dice via trade.

This would be a monumental gamble by the Panthers. Especially considering what appears to be at stake for Matt Rhule during a critical third season in charge.

One name that continues to come up is Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland Browns made their decision to move on from the No. 1 overall selection in favor of Deshaun Watson, who is now facing 24 civil suits relating to sexual misconduct that might come with a lengthy suspension from the NFL depending on their independent investigation.

Mayfield won’t play for the Browns again even if Watson is reprimanded by the league. There is too much water under the bridge for the team to go back now, in any case.

The Panthers made an inquiry for Mayfield during the draft but could not agree on the financial aspect of the trade. There are also reports that not everyone in the building is convinced that this is the right thing to do.

We won’t have to wait much longer to find out if the Panthers are going to go back in for the signal caller. Here are three last-ditch trade offers Carolina could make in this eventuality.
