3 last-ditch trade offers for the Panthers to land Baker Mayfield before camp

Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 3
We’ve discussed this previously. But if Deshaun Watson gets suspended by the NFL over his ever-increasing civil suits, then it makes more sense than ever.
Sam Darnold is not good enough for Matt Rhule to bet his job on. It’s just that simple and unless the head coach legitimately feels confident that he’ll get another year no matter what, it would be wise for the Carolina Panthers to bring in Baker Mayfield or someone else with better credentials.
The Cleveland Browns do have Tyrod Taylor, who is solid if not spectacular. They also have an expensive problem on their hands with Mayfield, who is unlikely to have a change of heart and get involved in team activities.
Darnold and Mayfield are getting paid the same. It would also put the USC product with a strong offensive line and one of the league’s best running back tandems in Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt to further assist his cause.
There hasn’t been any interest from elsewhere in Darnold this offseason. Not exactly surprising when one considers how much the signal-caller has failed to meet expectations since entering the NFL as the No. 3 overall selection in 2018.
Carolina is in a strong position if this is something they wish to explore. Removing Darnold from the equation would be the icing on the cake, but time is fast becoming of the essence with camp looming large.
