It’s strange to say Christian McCaffrey could transform the Carolina Panthers in 2022 given he’s been on the team since 2017. But the simple fact is he hasn’t been on the field all that much over the last two years and some have forgotten just what a vital piece of the puzzle the running back is.

McCaffrey has featured in 10 games over the last two years due to various injury problems. Something that exposed an offensive gameplan that was far too reliant on the All-Pro in hindsight.

This is a precarious situation for McCaffrey and the Panthers next season. Any further time on the sidelines will cast doubt about his future with the team and whether those in power were right to hand the former first-round pick a bumper contract extension after his historic campaign in 2019 where he achieved 1,000 yards rushing and receiving.

Keeping McCaffrey fit is arguably the Panthers’ biggest priority. The player himself is also adapting the way he approaches practice and overall training methods following a conversation with Pro Football Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, which will hopefully improve the Stanford product’s chances of staying healthy.

The Panthers have concerns about the quarterback position. So whoever is under center will need one of the league’s best security blankets alongside them at all times.
