Cam Newton must get a fair shot

One thing that Cam Newton freely admitted during his recent appearance on The Pivot podcast was that he walked into two messed-up situations after the Carolina Panthers ended his time with the team shortly after signing Teddy Bridgewater in 2020. Something that the iconic figure would be wise to avoid this time around.

Newton got little time to learn the New England Patriots playbook and there were also some COVID-19 complications that hindered his cause when unvaccinated. This was followed by entering the Panthers before their Week 10 clash at the Arizona Cardinals, taking the field just two days after his return was confirmed.

If Newton wants to prove his doubters wrong, then finding a home sooner rather than later would be the best course of action. This gives the player a chance to fully acclimatize to his surroundings, pick up the playbook ahead of time, and also develop chemistry with his teammates to further assist his cause.

All Newton is looking for is a fair shot, one suspects. This would mean competing with Sam Darnold and Matt Corral for depth-chart positioning with a view to potentially winning the starting job if everything goes well.

The Auburn product remains adamant that there aren’t 32 quarterbacks in the NFL that are better. And who knows, the Panthers might just give Newton another chance to prove it.
