4 things Cam Newton and the Panthers must agree before 2022 return

Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers must understand their respective roles
Perhaps it’s Cam Newton’s big personality and larger-than-life character that’s put teams off from taking the plunge. Having him competing or even in a backup role is something that might have an adverse effect on anyone’s starter given how revered the player is and how much attention he continues to grab from the national media.
Newton instantly came into the league and took it by storm. He was a cultural reset for the Carolina Panthers, attracting a new generation of fans and propelling them from obscurity into the national spotlight.
If the Panthers enter discussions once again with Newton about returning, then both parties must agree and, more importantly, understand their respective roles.
For Newton, it’s fighting for a starting job while also providing a supreme leadership presence within the locker room. Perhaps even becoming a mentor for Matt Corral along the way.
As for the Panthers, giving Newton the freedom to be himself and enough leeway to become an influential figure on and off the field is of paramount importance.
Only time will tell as to whether or not Newton comes back. It would be a fairytale if he did return and made a better go of things, but there is just no telling for sure.
If this is the end for Newton in Carolina, his legacy will live through the ages.
