Carolina Panthers will evaluate every position after OTAs, not just QB

As stated previously, there is a lot of talk about the Carolina Panthers bringing in additional reinforcements at the quarterback position, Potential trades for Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo continue to linger and there is also the possibility of Cam Newton coming back for one more go-around if the situation suits both parties.

Sam Darnold and Matt Corral are being constantly assessed right now. Once this portion of the preparation period comes to a conclusion, head coach Matt Rhue will sit down with general manager Scott Fitterer to reevaluate every position, not just the quarterback.

"“I think as we finish minicamp, Scott and I will talk, really at every position and say, ‘Hey, where are we? I think at the end of next week—we sit down, we talk about, ‘Hey, where are we?’ We’ve had a chance to see these guys now for eight weeks, nine weeks. Where do we need to bring some more help in? And where do we need to look for somebody at? Where are we good at? I think those talks happen as you finish up minicamp.”"

There are some obvious areas of the depth chart that could use bolstering. Even if the most important one might be under center.

Carolina has the salary-cap space to make something happen should they wish. They could also use the spare cash to extend Brian Burns with two years remaining on his deal.

Although the cloud hanging over the Panthers at quarterback isn’t ideal, those in power within the organization are in a good position to make alternative plans if the right opportunity comes along.
