Jermaine Carter – Former Carolina Panthers LB

It didn’t quite go according to plan for Jermaine Carter last season. The Carolina Panthers gave him the starting middle linebacker responsibilities early in training camp, but this failed to come with the consistency needed and both parties went their separate ways when his contract expired this spring.

Carter had some nice moments. But gap discipline against the run and a lack of consistency in coverage left the Panthers with no option other than to explore another potential successor to the legendary Luke Kuechly, whose presence remains sorely missed on the field and within the locker room.

The former Maryland star landed on his feet after agreeing to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs. This is expected to be from a rotational position initially, but some prominent reps could be coming his way providing everything goes to plan during the preparation period.

Kansas City decided to trade away star wide receiver Tyreek Hill this offseason, which will be a blow to their hopes given how influential the speedy presence was all over the gridiron. However, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes they’ll always have a chance – a player that has a unique gift to make everyone around him better.

Providing Carter can also provide assistance and others step up, then another bold Super Bowl bid is well within the Chiefs’ objectives for the upcoming campaign.
