Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE
It’s hard to believe that Brian Burns is still just 24 years old. The defensive end fast became an integral part of the Carolina Panthers and his 2021 efforts were encouraging en route to nine sacks and a first-ever Pro Bowl appearance.
Burns has every tool associated with dominant NFL pass rushers. His explosiveness is remarkable and this is matched by ever-improving technique and an arsenal of moves that give nightmares to opposing offensive tackles across the league.
One could argue that Burns’ numbers would be even greater had he converted more pressures into sacks. Once he figures this out, the former first-round pick will be almost unstoppable.
Another area where Burns needs a little work is against the run. Setting the edge better and adding extra discipline to his game in this regard would be advantageous, which should undoubtedly take the Florida State product into the elite discussion for good measure.
This is a huge upcoming campaign for Burns. He’ll have to put up lofty numbers without Haason Reddick taking the attention and if he can make strides, then the Panthers will likely hand him one of the biggest contracts in franchise history as a result.
Burns is the best player under 25 years old on the Panthers. And there might be even more to come next season with hard work and perseverance.
