C.J. Henderson – Carolina Panthers CB
The 2022 season represents a crossroads campaign for C.J. Henderson. One that could go either way for the talented cornerback.
Henderson was a top-10 pick in 2020 for a reason. He arrived in the NFL with shutdown potential after a standout career with the Florida Gators, but a difficult start with the Jacksonville Jaguars saw them swiftly move on for nothing more than a third-rounder and tight end Dan Arnold.
The Carolina Panthers clearly see something in Henderson. He was brought on gradually during his first season with the franchise and although there were some encouraging moments, more will be required in pursuit of truly realizing his potential.
There have been questions about Henderson’s work ethic and his desire to play football. This hasn’t been all that evident in Carolina, so getting a full offseason under his belt could lead to bigger and better things moving forward.
This was a calculated risk by the Panthers. If Henderson does end up putting it all together, then it gives them a potential starter that can complement what Carolina already has at the cornerback position.
However, if Henderson falls flat on his face, then it’s unlikely the team picks up his option next year.
