Baker Mayfield cloud hangs over the Carolina Panthers
The opening day of minicamp began eventfully even before players and coaches took the field. A report from Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports stated that the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns were locked in talks regarding Baker Mayfield, with the respected insider adding that there is some urgency to get something done from both parties.
According to Jones, the Panthers are keen to get Mayfield into the organization in time to adjust to his new surroundings this week. Something that set the fanbase into a fierce debate about whether or not it was the right thing to do.
The two sides are still disagreeing on how much of Mayfield’s salary Cleveland will take on as part of the deal. It also remains to be seen what the future holds for Sam Darnold if terms are agreed upon in the not-too-distant future.
This was the talk of the organization and something that was put to running back Christian McCaffrey during his media availability following the team’s practice. The All-Pro said all the right things, stating he can only focus on who is here rather than worrying about matters outside of his control.

Joe Person of The Athletic said that this week was the soft deadline for Mayfield’s arrival. So if something doesn’t happen in the next few days, it might not happen at all.
